About the speakers

Frank Wagner

VP of Compensation at Google

Frank Wagner is a deep Compensation and Total Rewards expert, building and leading the Google Compensation team for the last 17 years. He also has consulting experience at Hewitt Associates, where he was a partner and Compensation consultant, working on Executive, Broad-based, and Sales Compensation design.

At Google, Frank manages an annual compensation spend of more than $50 Billion, with an annual Compensation cycle budget of approximately $20 Billion. 

As the Company and its talent needs evolved, Frank helped Google and its compensation team earn its reputation for innovative Compensation designs. The team is recognized for its leading edge efforts both inside the Company, and externally.

Frank has helped take Google’s Compensation cycle from quarterly to semi-annual efforts, and then to a single annual event; moved equity vests annual to monthly equity vests, and replaced stock option grants with restricted stock units. In addition, he’s helped the Company move from a philosophy based on each element of Compensation, to one which is focused on total compensation.

Frank regularly answers questions at Google town halls, and holds Company-wide video conferences on compensationFrank has a B.S. with Highest Honors, and a MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

Gerald Lou

Compensation Consultant, formerly at Netflix, Tesla, Carta

Gerald Lou is a compensation expert that has worked at many innovative companies such as Google, Tesla, Carta, and Netflix. After experiencing a breadth of compensation philosophies, he started his own compensation consulting practice where he has helped over 40+ companies build and execute on their compensation programs. Companies he has consulted for include: Nextdoor, Moloco, DuoLingo, ONE, Watershed, etc.

Gerald is a passionate spreadsheet nerd as a result from his time as an honors industrial engineer student at the University of Michigan. He believes that the execution of a strategy is as important, if not more important, than the strategy itself. This is also the core belief that he uses to run his consulting business.
